Case Profiles #41

Chelsea Jane Doe

On November 13th, 2000, Chelsea Massachusetts Police Chief Kyes arrived at a parking lot in the back of the Soldier’s Home in Chelsea, Massachusetts to find a blanket covering the body of a young woman. She was missing her head, hands and feet and was believed to be between the ages of 17-25, weighing about 100-130 pounds and about 5’2-5’5 tall. Authorities believe she was a black female with possible Asian, Cape Verdean, or Indian ancestry. Police were eventually led to a former truck driver named Eugene McCollom, who told police that he had hired her and brought her back to his apartment in Lynn as she was a sex worker. After the two argued over money, he strangled her before cutting up her body. The only information he provided was that her name was Lisa and she was from Philadelphia. The woman’s head, hands and feet were later found in 2004 buried in a plastic container at a beach in the North Shore town of Nahant, Massachusetts. Using this information, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was able to create an image of Lisa to help identify her. They feel that she could be a foster child who was a victim of sex trafficking. Anyone with any information about the identity of the Chelsea Jane Doe is asked to please call Massachusetts State Police at 978-745-8908, the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit at 617-727-8817 or the Massachusetts Office of the Medical Examiner at 617-267-6767.

Christopher Barros

On October 10th, 2005, police were dispatched to a neighborhood in New Bedford, Massachusetts, with reports of shots fired. Once the police arrived, they discovered 25-year-old Christopher Barros in the backyard of a Russell Street home, where he was suffering from two gunshot wounds. Christopher later died from his injuries in a nearby hospital. Luckily, there were three witnesses to the events leading up to the senseless act of violence, and with their help, arrests were made. Fagbemi Miranda and his brother, Wayne Miranda, were arrested and subsequently charged with Christopher’s murder, both eventually being sentenced to life in prison.
