Juan “Carlos” Oquenda
On June 1st, 2006, at 1:46am, patrons at Ada’s Creations bar all of a sudden heard loud footsteps and saw a man stumbling down the stairs and out the back door before collapsing onto the sidewalk. People rushed over to help and saw that the man was covered in blood. Patrons at the bar as well as bystanders began grabbing anything they could to hold over the stab wounds on the man’s abdomen, with a few people taking off their own shirts to hold over the wounds and apply pressure. Even though police arrived on scene quickly, the man arrived at the hospital in critical condition before succumbing to his injuries. He was identified as Juan “Carlos” Oquendo. He had grown up in the Dominican Republic and had been living in Central Falls, Rhode Island for over a decade. He was living in an apartment above the bar at the time of his murder. Juan lived with two roommates and both of these roommates were immediately high on the investigator’s list for possible suspects, but the two men were both eventually cleared because they had strong alibis. Detectives uncovered bloody footprints leaving the crime scene and making a trail of blood spots from the front door of the apartment, down Pine Street and across Conant Street. The blood was tested and was revealed to be Juan’s. There have been no further leads in the case, and anyone with any information on the murder of Juan Oquendo is asked to please call 1-877-RI-SOLVE.
