Case Profiles #10

Melvin Franklin

October 15th, 1996 was the day that the whole world seemed to collapse around the Franklin family of Dorchester, Massachusetts. A hard-working father of two, Melvin Franklin was walking home from his job as a skycap out of Boston Logan International Airport when he was suddenly shot at least one time in the chest. Unfortunately, there were no witnesses around to be able to relay what happened, and Melvin died shortly after being taken to Boston City Hospital (now Boston Medical Center) before he was able to say anything to police. Police theorized that as Melvin was walking home, he interrupted a robbery in progress. When the intended target escaped, Melvin was left to take the blow of the perpetrators. Melvin’s wife Mary says that this would not be out of character for Melvin- trying to help people in a tough spot, however dangerous. Unfortunately to this day Melvin’s killer has not been brought to justice. If you or anyone you know has any information on Melvin’s death, please call the Boston Police Department at (617) 343-4470.
