Episode 111: The Murder of Krista Dittmeyer
Krista Dittmeyer was born in July of 1990, and grew up in Bridgton, Maine. After graduating from high school in 2008, Krista moved to Portland, Maine and got a job working as a waitress. Her friends and family described her as a “social butterfly” who was caring and strong-willed. Her favorite things to do consisted of shopping, spending time with her friends, and taking care of her 14-month-old daughter, Aliyah.
On Saturday, April 23rd, 2011, the Conway, New Hampshire police received a call at roughly 6:30 am stating that there was a car, with it’s hazards on, idling in the parking lot of the Cranmore Mountain Ski Area. One of the doors had been left open. When the police arrived, they discovered 14-month-old Aliyah in the back seat, safe and sleeping. There was no sign of Krista.
Unfortunately, on April 27th, Krista’s body was found in a snowmaking pond a quarter mile away from where her car was found. Police obtained her phone records and discovered that the last person she had contact with was 28-year-old Michael Petelis, who had told her to come over on April 22nd, the night she was last seen. Some prying further proved that Petelis, along with 28-year-old Anthony Papile, lured Krista to Petelis’ apartment in Ossipee, New Hampshire and ambushed her. They stole money and drugs from her before driving her to Conway and pushing her into the river. 23-year-old Trevor Ferguson helped the two men get away from the crime scene in exchange for drugs and money.
All three men were arrested for their involvement in the crime. Trevor Ferguson was sentenced to seven years for his involvement, Michael Petelis was sentenced to 35 years to life in prison, and Anthony Papile was sentenced to 50 year to life in prison.
