Case Profiles #9

Jovanna Crawford

21-month-old Jovanna Crawford was last seen on June 5th, 1981 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Jovanna lived with her mother Mary Corbin at the P. T. Barnum Housing Project in the 80 block of Taylor Drive. Mary had left for work and her boyfriend Ronald Garrett was going to watch Jovanna until Jovanna’s great grandmother could come get her. On the day Jovanna was last seen, Ronald said that a young black boy with his hair worn in braids that appeared to be about 10 or 11-years-old knocked on the door at about 10:20am. Ronald claimed that this boy was sent by Jovanna’s great grandmother to bring Jovanna to her, and he was arrested days later for felony risk of injury to a minor as he said that he gave the baby to the boy. Jovanna weighed 30 pounds at the time of her disappearance and she was last seen wearing a blue and white jumpsuit. She has brown eyes and black hair, and her ears are pierced. Anyone with any information on the disappearance of Jovanna Crawford is asked to please call the Bridgeport police department at (203) 576-7671 or The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678.

Javed Akhtar

In the evening of February 28th, 2007, the police department in East Windsor, Connecticut received a phone call alerting them to shots fired at 68 Depot Road. Upon arrival, the answering officers discovered Javed Akhtar on the ground with a bullet wound to the neck. Javed lay outside One Stop Convenience Store, which he had owned for the last few years with his wife, Rafia Javed. Paramedics arrived quickly and Javed was resuscitated on the way to Hartford Hospital, where he was put into the Intensive Care Unit in critical condition. Unfortunately, after a little over a week, Javed died from his injuries. Police had very few pieces of evidence to go on, except for a description of 2-3 black men and possibly a red Ford Mustang or a black SUV. Javed’s murderers have still not been apprehended. Anyone with any information is encouraged to call the East Windsor police department at (860)-292-8240.
