Episode 81: The Murder of Stephanie Campbell

Stephanie

On November 2nd, 2010, 22-year-old Molly Martel stabbed 27-year-old mother of three Stephanie Campbell in Manchester, New Hampshire. Stephanie later passed away at Elliot Hospital. The two girls were friends from working with one another and knew each other very well.

Molly had shown up at Stephanie’s apartment with 31-year-old Anthony Santos, the father of Stephanie’s two sons. Anthony had been abusive towards Stephanie and her children, and it appeared that he was now seeing Molly. An argument broke out and Molly left, but not before shouting that she would be back with a knife to stab Stephanie. Several hours later she returned and fatally stabbed Stephanie four times before fleeing to New York.

Molly was arrested two days later and charged with two counts of second-degree murder. Her attorneys alleged that her traumatic upbringing and sexual abuse at the hands of her father led her to commit the murder and that it was in self defense, while prosecution argued her guilt in not only the murder but fleeing the state after the fact.

Ultimately Molly was sentenced to 20 to 40 years in prison where she remains until at least 2029.

Stephanie’s children are with family and the kids and her mom are coping.
