Episode 87: Seth Bader

Vicki Bader in 1991

35-year-old Vicki Bader from Exeter, New Hampshire was last seen on August 24th, 1996, dropping off her 3-year-old son off at her ex husband Seth Bader’s home in Stratham, New Hampshire.

Eight months after her disappearance on April 10th, 1997, Vicki’s body was found in a shallow grave along a remote hiking trail in Waterboro, Maine, about 55 miles away from her home. She had been shot just a single time to her head and a .22-caliber gun was found nearby. 37-year-old criminal defense attorney Seth Bader was charged the next day with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Police were immediately suspicious of Seth and had him on their radar for years as the prime suspect for extreme threats that Vicki had faced prior to her murder. Vicki had her pet parakeets roasted in her oven, windows shattered and a pipe bomb placed in her mailbox.

Seth’s trial revealed that his 14-year-old son had led police to Vicki’s body, and he knew where it was located because Seth enlisted him to help with digging the grave days prior and bringing Vicki’s body to Maine. Seth was sentenced to life in prison where he remains despite repeated attempts to have his sentence reduced.
