Case Profiles #7

Achim Bailey

23-year-old Achim Bailey from Springfield, Massachusetts went missing in the early hours of January 13th, 2019 after leaving Samuel’s Tap & Table at the Basketball Hall of Fame. He was reported missing by his family the next day after he did not return home after his night out. Surveillance cameras picked up on a lone person walking on the train tracks headed in the direction of the South End bridge at around 3:00am on January 13th, and this is believed to be the last sighting of Achim. Achim’s body was found on March 15th, 2019 in the Connecticut River in Longmeadow, Massachusetts. Authorities maintain that there is no evidence of foul play despite the fact that Achim went missing just weeks prior to the disappearance of another black man named Andrew Pearson, who was also from Springfield and was also found in a body of water months later.

Nicole Mokeme

35-year-old mother Nicole Mokeme was well known in her community of Portland, Maine due to her outstanding work as an advocate for minorities, specifically the local youth. She was the founder of the Rise and Shine Youth Retreat, which was a self-development program for children of color, as well as opening a wellness retreat center for children as well. In June of 2022, Nicole and many others were on the annual Rise and Shine Youth Retreat at Acadia National Park when tragedy struck. Nicole was found dead on a walking trail early in the morning of June 19th, and it was clear she had been run over with a car. Her boyfriend of several years, Raymond Lester, was nowhere to be found, and pieces of a car’s bumper were found around Nicole’s body matching the one he drove. Over a month later, Raymond was found in Cancun, Mexico and arrested for Nicole’s murder.
