Episode 93: Julianne McCrery

On May 14th, 2011, the tri-state area of New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts was set abuzz. A young boy, described as being between 4 and 5 years of age, and having blonde hair and blue eyes, was found dead about 30 feet from a rural road in South Berwick, Maine. What puzzled investigators was the fact that nowhere in the area was there a missing persons report for a young boy. The only thing the police had to go on was an out-of-place blue pickup truck that caught the eye of a resident, shortly before his body was found.

Several days later, someone in Chelmsford, Massachusetts recognized the blue truck from a news report they had seen regarding the deceased boy without a name. Upon approaching the occupant of the truck, police learned of the identity of the woman, followed by a quick confession.

Julianne McCrery of Irving, Texas had driven her 6-year-old son, Camden Hughes, to New England, with an ultimate plan to kill him. She claimed she wanted to kill herself as well, and that she was only killing Camden because she didn’t want him to be raised without her. Julianne had smothered her son while sitting over his body while at a hotel in Hampton, New Hampshire.

Julianne’s trial occurred in November of 2011, where she pled guilty to murdering her innocent son. She was sentenced to 45-years-to-life, and remains in a Goffstown, New Hampshire prison to this day.
