Episode 92: The Murder of DeAndra Florucci
On the morning of October 25th, 2000, 15-year-old DeAndra Florucci got to school with a note in her hand. It was from her mother- she had an appointment at 11:30 that morning and needed to be dismissed from school and then come back. While she was at her appointment, a man came into the main office asking to speak with her. When told he could leave a note and then was asked to leave, the man was noted entering a back door. The assistant principal caught wind of his presence, attempted to escort him out, and then the pair ran into DeAndra, who was exactly who this mysterious man wanted to see. After exiting the school, the assistant principal thought everything was fine as DeAndra promised to head back to her locker. Unbeknownst to the assistant principal at the time, DeAndra never made it back to her locker.
That evening, DeAndra’s friends reported her missing, stating who she was last seen with. A man named Dana Martin had claimed he wanted to see DeAndra, and when police confronted him, he led them directly to her body. She had been sexually assaulted, strangled, and thrown off a local bridge in Plainfield, Vermont. Dana Martin was immediately arrested, and proceeded to represent himself in a trial that ultimately led to a sentence of life imprisonment.
Dana Martin went on to gain a very bizarre obsession with Canadian Popstar Justin Bieber. He even went as far as mailing him dozens of letters, and getting his face tattooed on his leg. When his newfound obsession didn’t respond to Dana, he hatched a plot with another inmate and his nephew to track down the Biebs and have him castrated. In the end, his plan was foiled and Dana remains incarcerated.
