Episode 94: Dr. George Reardon

Reardon’s stash of child porn hidden in the basement

In late November of 2007, a couple was doing renovations on their Hartford, Connecticut home. In the basement, while cracking paneling and opening up different areas, the unsuspecting family found a false wall. Behind this false wall, a disturbing discovery was made- over 50,000 35mm slides and over 100 video reels were hidden inside. The contents of these slides turned out to be child pornography.

The owners of the home were shocked, and when they went to police, the story quickly began to unravel. The home had been purchased by this family in 2003, and had nothing to do with this massive collection. Instead, it very obviously belonged to the late Dr. George Reardon, who had been the chief endocrinologist at St. Francis hospital in Hartford for over 30 years.

Starting in 1963, upon being hired, Dr. Reardon began conducting a research study on the growth rates of healthy children, in order to better assist in the treatment of children with abnormally low rates of growth. This was just a ploy, however, as Dr. Reardon had been using this fake study to get children alone in his office in order to photograph them in sexually explicit positions, as well as sexually abuse them.

Dr. Reardon was eventually permitted from practicing medicine due to multiple allegations of misconduct, and then died of a heart attack in 1998. Following his demise, and the discovery of the cache of child pornography, hundreds of victims have come forward claiming abuse by Dr. Reardon.
